WE ARE A MULTILINGUAL SCHOOL: The conversation aids are here!
The educational innovation project MULTILINGUAL SCHOOL is born from teaching practice expanded and improved with our experience. We firmly believe in the need to encourage the development of linguistic and communicative competence in students and that is why for a few years we have developed a program of conversation aids in order to encourage oral expression in English from 1st from Primary and up to 2nd High School.
This year, four conversational assistants, Aley, Henry, Thomas and Raven have arrived at the school with the excitement of teaching and learning in equal parts.
GET TO KNOW THEM A LITTLE BETTER:
ALLEY
My name is Alexandra but most people call me Aley. I'm 30 years old and I'm from Sacramento California. I came to Barcelona in 2014 because I needed a change in scenery from the United States. I was a psychologist specialized in Alzheimer's and Dementia and after doing that job for 5 years I needed a break. After arriving here I immediately fell in love with the country, the people and the culture and ultimately decided to stay. I came to Padre Damián through 12 English so I honestly didn't know anything about the school prior to coming, however upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised by how lovely and welcoming this school, its students and the staff are.
HENRY
My name is Henry Essex, I am 26 years old, and I am from Scarborough, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. I came to Barcelona because I love the culture here, but also because I want to learn Spanish, and I have many good friends in the area. I didn't know so much about Padre Damian before I arrived, but I think that it's a wonderful school that is in such a nice area of the city. Everyone here has been so welcoming.
THOMAS
My name is Thomas Fletcher. I am from Salford which is a small city just outside Manchester England. I am 22 years old. I came to Barcelona to experience a different culture and to learn a new language and in exchange give people my language. I came to Padre Damian because I heard about the reputation of how good a school it is and wanted to be part of helping the next generation of students to have a greater understanding of the English language.
RAVEN
My name is Raven. I am a twenty-four year old female from the USA that I grew up in Ohio then proceeded to go to University in Los Angeles, California. I moved to Barcelona in August with my Swedish partner to start a life together. I have always wanted to live abroad and when the opportunity presented itself, I was more than ready to take it. Coming to Padre Damián was particularly attractive to me since the school is so highly respected and credited. To be part of such an influential team makes teaching English here very rewarding. Barcelona has exceeded my expectations and has truly become my new home. I am currently struggling with missing my family and learning Spanish, which I am working on daily. In my free time, I enjoy exercising outdoors, doing cross-word puzzles on the beach, and taking weekend trips to surrounding villages in Catalonia.
