ESCOLANIA OF SCHOOL SAGRATS CORS OF BARCELONA
(Choirboys)
Founded in 1994, it is integrated by 40 boys, girls and young people between 7 and 15 years, who receive their academic formation in the school that has the same name.
In the last years it has become a choir of reference in its genre, due to the pedagogical criteria that is used in their education. The members of the choir are selected between the students who have participated during two or three years in the choral singing class, where they obtain the necessary knowledge of vocal and phonetic technique applied to the song and interpretation of diverse musical styles, that allow them to approach a repertoire that goes from the Gregorian chant to contemporary music. The vocal preparation includes the individual work with each member of escolanía that allows them to reach the formation to become qualified soloists in all performances. This dedication comes from the white voices period and arrives to adult voices. The young people from 15 to 20 years collaborate with the choirboys when is necessary for the repertory.
The escolanía collaborates with the ensemble Mapa Harmónico, that is directed by Francesc Bonastre (University professor of Musicología of the Universitat Autònoma of Barcelona) and it is dedicated to the interpretation with historical criteria of unpublished baroque music that has unquestionable quality and beauty. They have been released coming from the best works of investigation directed and recognized by experts in the matter. The escolania have participated in the closings of the international congresses "El barroco musical hispánico” that has reunited the great international specialists.
The obligations of the group are each day more numerous and require greater dedication, but the concerts agenda must respect the scholastic calendar in order to obtained satisfactory academic results and it is not altered his formation by the rehearsals.
Their concerts activity have been developed in the Catalan Music Palau, Generalitat of Catalonia, L’Auditori, Temple of the Holy Family, Royal Academies of Beautiful Arts and Good Letters....., several localities of Catalonia, Valencian country, Aragón, Navarre, Castile-Leon, Galicia....
In September of 2002 they travelled to Rome, where they offered several concerts and they released in San Pedro of the Vatican the work dedicated to the beatification of Juan XXIII, Ecce quam bonum, de F. Bonastre.
In November 2002 several soloists performed a concert in the Konzerthaus of Berlin, with a program of unpublished baroque Hispanic music.
During the summer of 2004 they offered concerts that included songs of pilgrimage and the Llibre Vermell of Montserrat, in several localities of the Camino de Santiago and in the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral.
In October of the same year, they participated in the concert of closing ceremony of the III Conference of the Royal Academies of Beautiful Arts of Spain; where they interpreted the first Oratorio conserved in Spain, Aquí de la fe , by J.V. Gargallo.
During 2005 they have participated in several concerts within the commemorations of IV the Centenary of the Quijote, where they released the cantata Túmulo of Altisidora, dedicated to the Dr. Martín of Riquer, interpreted in the Real Academy of Good Letters of Barcelona and in Catalan Music Palau of Barcelona.
In June of 2005 they interpreted a program dedicated to music from the time of Cervantes and to music with texts of the Quijote in the monastery of El Escorial, within the cycle of concerts of the Complutense University of Madrid.
In July they travelled to Paris to sing in the cathedral of Notre-Dame.
The commitments for the 2006 included several concerts dedicated to the commemoration of the Centennial V of the birth of San Francisco Javier, with a program of unpublished music of the baroque one dedicated completely to Navarrese saint and San Ignacio de Loyola in the 450 anniversary of its death (Barcelona, Loyola, Javier, Universidad de Deusto, Lleida…)
In October of the 2006 they released the oratorio Corona d’estels for soloists, choir and orchestra in Montblanc (Tarragona), ant they had recording this concert in one CD .
In November of the 2008 they had recording a compact disc with Christmas Carols.
In may of the 2009 they had singing The Messiah at the Palau de la Música. At June of this year they had recording the Mass dedicated to Father Damian of Molokai in occasion of his canonisation in Rome. They will sing in Rome in October of 2009.
Their vocal and stylistic education is carried out by her director, Begoña López.
The escolanía has made several recordings that have been received enthusiastic critics by the specialized press and have deserved several programs in Classic radio (RNE) and Catalonia Music (Catalonia Radio).
